Candy Corner | Hoskers Lake

It’s been a while! This was only my second fishing session of the year! Where’s this year gone!?

Anyway, you’ll notice this is only my first post this year. That’s because a couple of weeks ago I had an absolute mare of a session and there was really nothing to share. I was in a Yorkshire social match at Birkwood Farm fisheries, but drew a blank and caught nothing, zero, zip! It was a ridiculously warm day and the pond we were on was Oscars. I’d heard it was full of F1’s so went with the intention of getting them going on luncheon meat. It just didn’t happen. The match was a disaster all round to be honest, with the biggest weight being about 20 Ib and most people getting around 6-7 Ib. The pond gets some really decent weights on a good day but it was just too hot and they weren’t having it at all!

So, after that I had to get my confidence back, so I headed to my new favourite spot, Candy Corner. There were no match’s on Hoskers lake which is unusual, so I decided to fish on the opposite side where I can’t usually get. I fished peg 2.

Social Match at Sunrise Lakes

Since joining the Yorkshire Fishing Forum I have learnt a lot, all be it in a short length of time. I had been keeping a keen eye on the YF Social Match section. As you will have seen I only usually go Pleasure fishing, but, to develop my skills, and to get a feel for adult fishing matches, a Yorkshire Forum social match sounded ideal. It also gave me a chance to put faces to names from the Forum!

I couldn’t make the first 2, but decided to book onto the 3rd Match at Sunrise Lakes in Spofforth near Wetherby, North Yorkshire. What a great decision it was. I was made to feel very welcome by all who attended and a great day was had by all. There was 10 of us in the match.

BobCo Tackle | Awesome Service

OK, I decided my current netting gear needed upgrading so I needed a new Landing Net and landing net Handle. I searched on all the various online shops looking for the best deals I could, being the tight wad I am; Ted Carter, Angling DirectChapman’s Angling & Fosters of Birmingham all good sites don’t get me wrong, but I then came across this gem of a site; BobCo tackle!

An hour or so later having been browsing through all of their product categories, I got to what I came here for.  My products of choice were the very well priced Preston Quick Dry Landing Net and Daiwa Sweepfire Handle. These two together should stand me in good stead for the forceable future. I also had to chuck a few baits in my basket to try, of which I will probably review in a post soon.

I placed my order with BobCo Tackle at about 2 o’clock on Thursday AND the items arrived at 9.40 am the next day! How good is that? To add to that, postage was only £1.99! I order loads online, and £1.99 for next day delivery is quality, and nearly unheard of!

A couple of my items weren’t in stock so I emailed asking when they would be delivered, I got a response within half an hour! SPOT ON! We sorted the 2 items and with helpful advise from one of the guys and they got them dispatched the very same day, arriving today! All the items were exactly how described and pictured on the website, as-well as being packaged extremely well. What great service!

I would highly recommend the guys at BobCo tackle to anyone, especially anglers in Yorkshire with them being based in Leeds. They’re ACE and I will be using them from now on for all my online tackle needs!

Hayfield Lakes | Adams Lake

Previous holder of the famous Fish ‘O’ Mania, Hayfield Lakes was one of the top lakes in the North of England. At this time I was a regular visitor to the lake with my mates, and enjoyed many a day fishing on the top on floating bred and dog biscuit on the Island Lake (this method is now banned) regularly catching double figure carp.

I wasn’t sure how it had been getting on recently but with it previously to being my favourite commercial to visit, this was the top of my list.

So, on the 19th May I returned to my old stomping ground- Hayfield Lakes – this time with my girlfriend in accompaniment to take some better photos!

Candy Corner Fisheries

I arrived at Candy Corner Fisheries bang on opening time – 7:30 am on the 12th May 2013 all excited in anticipation.

There are 4 Lakes at Candy Corner Fisheries, two main ones in AJ’s and Hoskers, that usually have matches on at the weekend, and then 2 other ponds that are generally for pleasure anglers. AJ’s was fully matched up as expected & Hoskers had a match on pegs 1-15. AJ’s is the largest lake with all fish types in with carp up to 30 Ib. Hoskers is a lot smaller but of similar ilk that holds its own with Carp up to 15 Ib.

I had a walk around Hoskers, getting my bearings and eyeing up where to fish. I decided upon peg 23, for the only reason that it had the best margin reeds.

Fishing on the Pole, I plumbed up, starting all the way to the island, which was about 11 meters away, and working my way back. The deepest part of the pond was the middle/track, so about 5-6 meters out. This is the swim I decided to attack first.
